Aquaponics
The most
recommended plants in this system are leafy vegetables (lettuce) and aromatic
plants (basil, mint, oregano), because they are short-cycle crops.
How does
aquaponics work?
Aquaponics
is a sustainable system of simultaneous production of plants and fish that
combines traditional aquaculture (cultivation of aquatic plants) with
hydroponic cultivation (cultivation of plants without substrate but in water
with dissolved nutrients) in a symbiotic environment in which plants they
benefit.
This method
is that it not only guarantees that the food is organic, but it can also be
produced in relatively small places or with little space for cultivation; It
allows local production, so food transport over long distances is avoided and
fresh food is available that can be obtained easily and quickly in the process.
